Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is inviting applications from Adult Psychiatrists to join the Community Outreach and Assessment Support Team (COAST) Program primarily at the East Edmonton Mental Health Clinic, in the Department of Addiction and Mental Health, Edmonton Zone.

The COAST is a multidisciplinary care team that is enabling and enhancing the community’s capacity to provide effective and enriched supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. Areas that are targeted include; providing increased supports to service providers during times of crisis, developing preventative strategies to avoid the need for service providers to initiate a critical response and empowering service providers with the ability to maintain and implement high quality service provision.

This position will provide consultation services and psychosocial rehabilitation for patients referred to the COAST Program. Patients in the program have intellectual disability and complex needs which often require multidisciplinary interventions. It will also provide consultation services for patients with intellectual disability who have borderline functioning and attend general community mental health clinic in the Edmonton zone. The psychiatrists will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and case conferences. The position will be located primarily at the East Edmonton Mental Health Clinic. The successful candidate will also provide consultation services to the 108 St Edmonton Mental Health Clinic as well as support the community on-call program at the Anderson Hall. It is a requirement for this position that the successful candidate participate in the community on-call program which will provide 24/7 psychiatric coverage for the 24/7 Access clinic at Anderson Hall.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the training of medical students and psychiatry residents in intellectual disability psychiatry as well as participate in quality improvement initiatives, including clinical audits and research into intellectual disability psychiatry.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and must have or be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and have the FRCPC designation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada of be eligible to sit for the Royal College examinations.

The incumbent will operate as an equal member of an interdisciplinary team, consulting with peers, supervisors and other professionals. A proven track record of mentoring faculty members and trainees and collaborating is preferred.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as supplemented by sessional payments if applicable.
