Alberta Health Services, is inviting applications from Physicians who are interested in taking on the position of Facility Medical Director, Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).

This 0.5 FTE position reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Medical Director and is the most senior site medical administrative leader at RAH. The Facility Medical Director, Royal Alexandra Hospital, works collaboratively with the RAH site operational lead as dyad partner, and also with clinical and operational leaders to provide clinical oversight for the RAH site. Utilizing the AHS dyad model, the Facility Medical Director and the Senior Operating Officer of RAH will maintain a close working relationship and will be jointly accountable to provide integrated leadership for the RAH site.

This position is accountable for, but not limited to, providing senior medical leadership support for the Department Facility Chiefs (Site Chiefs) within his/her portfolio; the resolution of physician-related and clinical-operational matters; providing clinical leadership, consultation, support, and coaching to the site medical staff; monitoring clinical practice and medical staff in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules; and advocating for the provision of overall quality, patient safety, and patient care. This position is also responsible for recruitment and performance management of Department Facility Chiefs at the RAH, in collaboration with Zone Clinical Department Heads.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital is one of Edmonton’s largest and longest serving hospitals, offering general and specialized medical and surgical health services, and features one of Canada’s busiest emergency departments. Located in the heart of the City of Edmonton, the Royal Alexandra Hospital provides a wide variety of health services to the City of Edmonton, and surrounding area. The hospital operates 850+ beds and cares for almost half a million patients annually.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and a passion for quality and patient safety. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with significant experience in medical leadership and considered to be a strong clinician by peers.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.

Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.
