The Department of Medicine, University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services, Calgary, invites applications from outstanding investigators for a Tenure Track (contingent[KP1] ) position as an academic respirologist / health services researcher at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will have a joint appointment with the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases and be a member of the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases.

A major focus of the successful applicant’s research would be on CF microbiology and the respiratory tract microbiome as it pertains to mechanisms of disease in CF patients.

The recruitment of such an individual will align with clinical needs within the Division of Respiratory Medicine and the combined research needs of the Division, the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases and the Snyder Institute. An individual with this academic profile will align strongly with the strategic research priorities of the Snyder Institute and more broadly with the University of Calgary’s university-wide strategic research plan. Further, the proposed position will also strongly align with two of the university’s priority themes, increasing research capacity and driving innovation. The successful applicant should have a strong publication record with at least 30-accepted/pending peer-reviewed publications, the majority as first or lead author. The successful candidate is expected to have academic outputs which will enable them to be competitive for external research support – and specifically tri-council funding.

Qualifications include an MD, FRCPC certification in Respiratory Medicine and eligibility for specialist licensure in the province of Alberta as well as a PhD or equivalent research training in cystic fibrosis and postdoctoral fellowship research experience. The successful applicant must demonstrate evidence of publishing multiple papers that have influenced the field and provided information that may be of interest to clinical and basic science audiences. The successful candidate must demonstrate evidence of an ability to collaborate, potential to lead a research team, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level. The successful candidate will be an individual who has expertise in clinical respiratory medicine including the care of patients with cystic fibrosis. Specifically, the Division of Respiratory Medicine is interested in a researcher who has expertise in mechanisms of disease and the respiratory microbiome. The recruit should be familiar with the Canadian health care system and be able to establish an independent research program that will produce high quality research.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
