The Section of Cardiac Surgery performs approximately 1,650 major cardiac procedures per year. Programmatic themes with structural heart (TAVIs), MIVS, MAZE, MCS/ECMO, EP and complex aortic surgery comprise roughly 55% of the cases with CABG accounting for the remainder. The ideal candidate will be an early career (< 5 years) graduate of a Canadian medical school or equivalent and must hold certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in the Specialty of Cardiac, Cardiovascular, or Cardiothoracic Surgery. Early (<5 years) career candidates are preferred. Eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta is required. The successful candidate will have completed at least one year Fellowship- level training (post-FRCSC or equivalent) in cardiac surgery. Sub- specialty focus on the surgical management of complex aortic disease would be an asset and highly desired. Additional qualification with an MBA would be ideal. The successful candidate will participate in the Calgary Cardiac Surgery Clinical Alternate Relationship Plan (ARP), which provides competitive salary support and be part of a defined group work schedule with specific deliverables. They will actively partake and contribute to the teaching, research and clinical activities of the Section of Cardiac Surgery.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
