Acute care coverage is currently recruiting independently licensed Family Physicians for the Family Practice acute care delivery program. The physician would work in close consultation and collaboration with the surgeons (Most responsible physician in the specialties of general surgery and orthopedics) at the RVH or PLC hospital site.
This Family Practice Acute Care Delivery program is interested in hiring physicians with a Community Family Medicine background with a key focus on working collaboratively with the surgical team. The surgeon will be the most responsible physician. The family physician providing acute care coverage will work closely with the surgical team to provide coordinated care for surgical patients on the ward, in the emergency room and in the operating room. Rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays are required. This collaboration will involve working in a coordinated manner with the Department of Surgery to ensure acute care coverage for surgical patients.
The aim of the program is to help support care of surgical patients in a manner that acknowledges specialty integration with primary care. As well, this program will help support transitions of surgical patients from their medical home into acute care and back. An additional goal of this program is to support scope of practice for community family physicians who are providing part time or locum coverage in community family practice. Alternatively, physicians who practice community-based sports medicine may be well suited for the orthopedic surgery coverage. The Family Practice Acute Care Delivery program will help to enhance understanding and collaboration of specialty care with primary care.
