Alberta Health Services (AHS) is inviting applications from family or emergency physicians with a background in urgent or emergency care to join the Department of Family Medicine in Calgary.

Three positions are available that will provide permanent coverage (including days, evenings, and weekends) at the South Calgary Health Centre (SCHC) Urgent Care Centre (UCC). The expected workload is a minimum of 8 shifts per 4 month block.

The SCHC UCC is a vibrant and energetic high-volume site with a wide variety and complexity of patient presentations which operates from 08:00 until 22:00 daily, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The site features lab and x-ray services and full time orthopedic technologist services while utilizing an electronic medical record.

The site has dual physician coverage at all times, with a third physician providing “fast track” service during peak periods. The shift assignments are flexible, along with the opportunity for split shifts.

The successful physician must be able to fill the scheduling requirements as described above and will integrate seamlessly into a fast paced multidisciplinary team environment including licensed practical nurses (LPNs), orthopedic technicians (OTs), and registered nurses (RNs).

Required Qualifications:

The successful applicant will:
- be certified in Family Medicine with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or certified in Emergency Medicine with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians
- be a current locum physician at SCUC, or completed a minimum 6 month locum within the previous 2 years
- hold active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
- have current medical liability insurance coverage
- demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal
- have greater than one year of experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is a requirement unless concurrently working in an Emergency Department

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with information technology systems, such as Netcare, SCM, SEC, and PACS
- Previous experience providing urgent or emergency care to pediatric patients
- CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) designation

We thank all applicants for their interest, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.

Must read, write and speak English.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
