The Geriatric Section Chief oversees about 12 full-time members and additional physicians who contribute part-time to section activities and service (2-3 GFTs and up to 16 psychiatrists who provide clinical services). The section chief supervises 3 clinical medical director positions.

This position is also responsible for the geriatric mental health outpatient and inpatient programs including a 22 bed acute inpatient unit, a 20 bed subacute unit, day programs (including geriatric addictions), community outreach, LTC care support, rural coverage and providing support to primary care and Seniors’ Health programs as required. Combined, geriatric services provide care to 2000 plus clients yearly. Other specific responsibilities include:

Clinical Staff:

· Periodic reviews, including preliminary assessment of physician fitness when concerns arise

· Resolving physician conflicts

· Addressing patient concerns complaints

· Assisting with interviewing/hiring (including for other programs that request geriatric psychiatry support)

· Physician recruitment for clinics/education


· Section Meetings

· Program specific meetings (ex. R and R steering committee)

· Meetings with CMDs—variable depending on whether or not there are program issues (Range from weekly to bimonthly—can be in person, on phone or via email)

· Meeting with dyad partner

Attendance at site, EMT and departmental meetings

· Involvement with other meetings pertinent to geriatrics (or delegation)

· Annual report completion

· Program planning, inclusion/exclusion criteria review, quarterly stats

· Maintaining section shared drive, website information

· Sessional reviews/budgeting

The candidate must have AHS privileges.
