The Department of Medicine (DOM) and Alberta Health Services – invites applicants for the .05 FTE Medical Director, Complex Chronic Disease Management Clinic, Calgary Zone. This role provides medical leadership to the Complex Disease Clinic and is critical to ensure delivery of safe and effective clinical services. The clinic provides intensive management of complex medical patients to effectively decrease exacerbations and hospital presentations. Other responsibilities/duties listed below:

  • Physician medical lead for the vision, innovation, and goal setting for the clinic
  • Responsive to the evaluation metrics that are collected through the clinic and using them to guide and improve care
  • Communicate with physicians working in the clinic to ensure there are clear expectations and high standards of care are maintained.
  • Participate in staffing decisions relating to hiring, assessment and accountability of allied health staff
  • Communicate with partners in the community and hospital who provide services adjacent to the care delivered in the clinic
  • Advocate for a workplace that is safe, enjoyable, and up to current expectations of AHS relating to wellness and diversity

Essential qualities include strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience leading change, and an ability to engage stakeholders and make decisions in a transparent manner. Demonstrated skills in team building, collaboration, mentorship, sponsorship and conflict resolution are required. Other qualifications include:

  • MD, FRCPC (Internal Medicine) and RCPSC subspecialty (General Internal Medicine)
  • Specialist licensure in the province of Alberta
  • Strategic thinker with medical, administrative and leadership experience
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Information for Medical Staff: Alberta Health Services has approved a mandatory Immunization of Workers for COVID-19 vaccine policy, effective immediately. In accordance with the Policy, all contractors and AHS employees, including medical and midwifery staff are required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 prior to their first day of practice.
