The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Critical Care, at the Alberta Children’s Hospital invite applications for a position at the Clinical Assistant Professor level or higher within Alberta Health Services - Calgary Zone. The Department is concurrently seeking a Section Chief (0.30 FTE) for the Zone Clinical Section Chief of Critical Care Medicine (see job competition 40042). Candidates may wish to consider applying to both positions.

The Section of Pediatric Critical Care is seeking an individual with skills and expertise in pediatric critical care medicine. The Section of Pediatric Critical Care provides comprehensive consultant care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan, a catchment area of approximately 2.5 million people. The Alberta Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit admits approximately 900 cases per annum. The age range of admissions is from term neonates to 18 years. It is a closed model, non-cardiac, multidisciplinary ICU providing general medical and surgical intensive care, neurosurgical and trauma intensive care, extracorporeal life support, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CRRT, specialized intensive care transport, neuro-critical care program, ICU support for the Provincial BMT program and intensive care outreach services.

There exists the opportunity for suitably motivated and qualified individuals participate in research. The ACH PICU is an active member of the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group with many on-going research studies and involvement in many multi-center trials.

Expertise in neuro-critical care is also an asset to assist our neuro-critical care neurology team in the continued development of this program, but all areas of clinical focus will be considered.

The 141 bed Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) opened in 2006 followed by the adjacent Child Development Centre and Rotary Flames House Hospice. Calgary is also served by two level III NICUs and four level II NICUs at five teaching hospitals in the City of Calgary. The Department of Pediatrics has over 300 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the rapidly growing Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Many members are also part of the Alberta Children’s Health Research Institute (ACHRI), or other Faculty research institutes. Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics and Critical Care Medicine, or equivalent. Additional recognized training and qualifications in research, anesthesia or neurocritical care is a definite asset.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Calgary PICU Alternative Relationship Plan with Alberta Health.
