This position provides essential leadership and direction to the members of the Sheldon M Chumir Urgent Care Centre as well as professional matters relating to quality medical services including: patient care, site staffing, education and research, program development, quality improvement, and utilization management. The Urgent Care Centres provide invaluable unscheduled care support to patients and community practitioners, and have been crucial in the COVID-19 response. This medical site lead will approximately 40 physicians for a large site that delivers 60,000 patient visits per year.

The position is vital to the ongoing operations of the site, ensuring effective, continuous flow of operational processes, and participating in quality assurance, and safety activities.

The position is also essential to the management of arising concerns and incidents, occurring at site and resolutions. This is especially important as the Urgent Care Centres undergo the launch of Connect Care, and the period of coverage is needed immediately prior to that launch during which time training and preparation work is taking place.

Required Qualifications:

The successful applicant will:

- be certified in Family Medicine with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or certified in Emergency Medicine with the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians

- hold active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta

- have current medical liability insurance coverage

- demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal

- have greater than one year of experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Room setting

- be certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

- AHS requires proof of full immunization against COVID-19, in accordance with AHS Immunization of Workers for COVID-19 Policy #1189, prior to onboarding and providing services at any AHS facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Familiarity with information technology systems, such as Netcare, SCM, SEC, and PACS

- Previous experience providing urgent or emergency care to pediatric patients

- CCFP (EM) or FRCPC (EM) designation
