The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and the Clinical Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone is accepting applications for an Academic Arthroplasty Surgeon with advanced training in Hip and Knee Reconstruction. The candidate will be expected to exhibit a strong commitment to research, clinical care delivery and education. It is expected this individual will play a strong leadership role both academically and clinically.

The primary practice site for this position has been identified as the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Orthopaedic Surgery Centre. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2021.

The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery presently consists of 46 surgeons and provides services to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities including Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Division provides specialized care in all aspects of Orthopaedic Surgery including Arthroplasty, Foot and Ankle, Oncology, Paediatrics, Spine, Sports Medicine, Trauma and Upper Extremity. The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery has a training program of 20 residents and provides fellowship opportunities in Arthroplasty, Foot and Ankle, Paediatrics, Spine, Sports Medicine, Trauma and Upper Extremity. The Edmonton zone completes approximately 3700 hip and knee replacements annually. Patients are all booked and followed through one central intake clinic which provides an excellent opportunity for clinical research. The majority of primary surgeries are performed at a new Orthopaedic Surgery Center with four operating theatres and 56 inpatient beds.

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in Orthopaedic Surgery and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. The applicant must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery or equivalent and have advanced training in hip and knee reconstruction. A strong interest in research with completion of at least a Masters level degree in Clinical Epidemiology or Public Health is required .The successful applicant will be appointed to the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta through a separate application process.

Compensation is fee for service, according to the schedule of medical benefits of Alberta.
