Alberta Health Services in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, invites applications for an Academic Infectious Disease Physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada,

Key accountabilities of the Academic Infectious Diseases Physician will include, but will not be limited to, clinical practice of Infectious Diseases, classroom and bedside teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Infectious Diseases subspecialty residents, and the development of an internationally recognized research program. Clinical practice (minimum 20% effort) may include, but not be limited to, inpatient ID consultation and participation in ID after hours call; ambulatory care (including OPAT, longitudinal care of persons living with HIV/AIDS; management of patients with chronic viral hepatitis). Other areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role.

The successful applicant will have a major research focus, dedicating at least 40% of their time to research in Infectious Diseases with alignment to the existing strengths of the Division (https://www.ualberta.ca/department-of-medicine/divisions/infectious-diseases/research.html) and Faculty. The following are regarded as an asset, but not essential: training/experience in Infection Prevention and Control, Health Economics, Health Services Research or Clinical Trails.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Infectious Diseases currently has over 30 Faculty members. It provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta as well as western NWT and parts of BC. There are established specialty programs in HIV/AIDS, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship as well as close relationship with Provincial and regional microbiology laboratories, and regional Public Health officials. The Division boasts one of the longest running and most highly regarded Canadian postgraduate training programs in Infectious Diseases. It has a long history of conducting clinical trials of antiviral therapy, and members of the Division are actively engaged in clinical, translational and basic science research.

The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have demonstrated a successful record of accomplishment in research, and/or have formal research training with associated productivity.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
