Alberta Health Services in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology, invites applications for an academic Neuromuscular Neurologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, University of Alberta is an internationally recognized team of academic and clinical neurologists with areas of excellence that include Neuromuscular Disorders, Stroke, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, Cognitive Disorders, Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG and EEG), MS and Neurogenetics. The Division includes 32 full time Neurologists based at the University of Alberta Hospital and 30 community Neurologists based at the Royal Alexandra and Grey Nuns Hospitals, Edmonton Zone. The Division of Neurology members are appointed faculty to the University of Alberta with close ties to the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute at the University.

Key accountabilities of the Neuromuscular Neurologist will include, but will not be limited to high quality clinical work in Neuromuscular Disorders, Clinical Neurophysiology (EMG), educational deliveries to trainees and a major commitment to research focused on clinical trials in Neuromuscular Disease.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and possess two years of academic fellowship training in Neuromuscular Disorders, preferably outside of Canada.

The candidate is expected to have cutting edge expertise in Neuromuscular Disorders and Clinical Neurophysiology and will be expected to lead innovative clinical trials including multicentre trials with or without industry participation. A strong commitment to the education of trainees is essential to this position.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP) Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
