The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with the Department of Critical Care Medicine and Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Academic Teaching Staff position as an Adult Intensivist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. The Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta is a growing research-focused Department, currently consisting of 10 primarily appointed and 5 cross appointed Geographic Full-time Faculty and greater than 40 Clinical Faculty. Research spans the spectrum from laboratory-based experimental and translational work through epidemiology, clinical trials, and health services research in all aspects of Critical Care Medicine. The Department considers education a high priority and provides leadership to the educational and administrative activities of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Alberta Health Services, the Alberta Medical Association, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, and be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Individuals dedicated to the development of a clinical or health services research program related to critical care medicine are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will receive a one year contracted academic teaching staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor within the academic Department of Critical Care Medicine. This contract may be extended. Desirable skill sets include experience and additional training in Health Research Methods and Services Research and/or Quality Improvement and Medical Informatics. Expected salary and operating grant applications to peer reviewed granting agencies, such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, will be strongly supported by the Department. Specific responsibilities of this position will include clinical service, undergraduate and postgraduate education, supplemented by research and/or administration depending upon the candidate’s qualifications and interest. The time distribution for various activities will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications and interests and Departmental need.

Remuneration for the academic position will be $78,458. Clinical remuneration is fee-for-service. Clinical service in base specialty is negotiable and will depend on the individual selected. The expectation is that the successful candidate will have clinical services primarily based at the University of Alberta Hospital.
