Alberta Health Services (AHS), Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the role of Deputy Zone Clinical Department Head – Adult Critical Care, Edmonton Zone.

This 0.3 FTE position, governed by the Medical Staff Bylaws and rules, reports directly to the Edmonton Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH) for Adult Critical Care. Remuneration is in accordance with AHS contractor agreements.

The successful candidate is responsible for assisting the ZCDH in carrying out his/her duties, leading and executing strategic priorities to effectively deliver high quality Adult Critical Care services across all AHS sites in the Edmonton zone. The Deputy ZCDH – Adult Critical Care will develop and implement a vision for provider professional development and will prioritize and champion provider wellness.

The position of Deputy ZCDH – Adult Critical Care, is a senior Medical Leadership role in the Edmonton Zone providing leadership support to the ZCDH (Adult Critical Care), contributing expert guidance and advice to matters within the Department of Adult Critical Care. The Deputy ZCDH - Adult Critical Care must effectively collaborate with the Zone Clinical Department Head, Adult Critical Care Site Leads, Operational dyad partners, and Department members in achieving these outcomes. Other major accountabilities include:

  • Professional Development (Including clinical and non-clinical, support for clinical privilege lists)
  • Provider wellness
  • Supporting communication strategies for the Edmonton Zone Adult Critical Care Community.
  • Academic Liaison with the Department of Adult Critical Care, Faculty of Medicine, University of Alberta
  • Emerging projects that align with the strategic vision of the Adult Critical Care Department at the direction of the ZCDH.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution and a passion for education, and provider wellness. S/he will be an inclusive and visionary leader with experience in medical leadership and is considered a strong clinician by peers.

The successful candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, be an excellent clinician with the respect of his/her peers. S/he will have demonstrated the ability to lead teams to develop and implement projects successfully.

Candidates must possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC) fellowship, or equivalent designation, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of formal relevant education and training.
