Young Adult Psychiatrist with special interest in First Episode Psychosis and Early Intervention -

Edmonton Zone – Full - Time

The University of Alberta, and the Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a General Adult Psychiatrist with an interest in a community focused practice and community based mental health research. We presently have a position for a full-time community based Young Adult Psychiatrist with special interest in First Episode Psychosis Early Intervention.

In collaboration with the young adult services administrative leaders, this position will entail providing physician leadership for the multidisciplinary team and consultation services for individuals accessing services in the Edmonton Early Psychosis Intervention Clinic (EEPIC). EEPIC is a flagship program within the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health Services which provides care for youth 16 years and older and young adults with a first episode psychosis and their families in a multidisciplinary and research fertile environment. Multidisciplinary team members include psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, social workers, occupational health therapists, addiction counsellors, registered nurses and mental health therapists who are guided by the early psychosis intervention guidelines and the Edmonton Zone AMH principles of care.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in weekly team meetings and provide support to team clinicians as required. There will be opportunities to work in collaboration with other psychiatrists, administrators and inter-disciplinary team members. The successful candidate will be required to participate in on-call coverage for the 24/7 community urgent care clinic located at the Anderson Hall and week-end onsite shifts at the Access 24/7 center.

It is the expectation of this position that the successful applicant will be a part of the physician/administrative dyad, leading the team and clinic through change management processes to enhance practices and participating in quality improvement initiatives within the program.

In addition, the psychiatrist would be expected to participate in the community psychiatry research program within the Division of Community Psychiatry with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta.

Successful candidates will be expected to be actively involved in resident training, including seeking a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment within the Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered a separate process via the University of Alberta.

The successful candidates must have or be eligible for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Preferred candidates will have completed advanced training in General Adult Psychiatry plus significant experience working with youth and young adults as well as in first episode psychosis or early intervention program. The successful candidates must have specialist qualifications, such as FRCPC or equivalent.

Candidates with an interest in working as part of an interdisciplinary team, enthusiasm with teaching and experience in leadership roles are preferred.

This position is sponsorship eligible.

Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis as well as sessional payments to cover travel time to client homes and non-billable activities.
