Our Physician group provides coverage for both the Royal Alexandra hospital and the North East Community Health Centre. Physicians joining our group are required to work at both sites.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital is an approximately 850 bed facility located in the heart of the City of Edmonton. As an inner city tertiary trauma centre, the emergency department provides 24/7 service to over 73,000 patients per year. This is an exciting opportunity for Emergency Physicians interested in developing their critical care and trauma experience, as well as witnessing the rewards of treating patients who are challenged by social circumstance, addictions and mental health issues. The RAH ED prides itself in building a foundation that promotes the health and well-being of the community.
The Royal Alexandra hospital has a full suite of consultant services available on site, and is also the major referral centre in Northern Alberta for Women’s Health, Thoracic surgery, Bariatrics and Ophthalmology. As a teaching facility for a variety of health care learners, you will also interact with students in many disciplines.
The North East Community Health Centre (NECHC) Emergency Department is a stand-alone, 18 bed emergency department that provides service to over 48 000 patients a year. It is part of a facility that includes a number of outpatient clinics including sports medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, psychiatry and women’s health. There are no inpatient facilities on site. Working at the NECHC allows our physicians to work in a community setting and maintain their pediatric skills, as pediatric volumes are the second highest in the Edmonton zone. Like the Royal Alexandra the department serves patients with challenging social circumstances as well as a number of new immigrant communities that have settled in the north east quadrant of the city.
All Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Applicants are expected to participate in education of trainees and are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.
