The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a clinical gastroenterologist with additional training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease to be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.

The Division of Gastroenterology at the Royal Alexandra Hospital consists of 15 gastroenterologists, 5 of whom have major academic positions. The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a high-volume clinical center addressing Edmonton’s inner city and beyond.

It houses a 20 bed GI ward supported by a Clinical Assistant, a busy GI inpatient consultation service, and an Endoscopy centre performing 17,000 procedures per year. Current Division members provide clinical expertise in Hepatology, Nutrition, GI Malignancy, and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy.

Key accountabilities of the position will include, but will not be limited to participating in the delivery of inpatient and outpatient GI and hepatology care including ward and consult services and endoscopy at the Royal Alexandra Hospital site. The candidate will participate in clinical teaching of medical students and residents. The candidate is expected to participate in the Provincial Colon Cancer Screening Program up to 1 full day per week. ERCP is not part of this position. The successful candidate will become a member of the GI Division at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible for certification in Gastroenterology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). Additional training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease will be required for this position.

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
