The Specialized Geriatric Services Program (SGS – Clinical Alternative Relationship Plan) in partnership with Alberta Health Services is inviting applications for a Geriatrician / Care of the Elderly Physicians to join the Divisions of Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s largest and only provincial health region providing services for a population of over 3 million people.

A Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine trained) specialist or Care of the Elderly (Family Medicine trained) Physician is required at Royal Alexandra Hospital site, this role will include the development of an Orthogeriatrics Service and conduct Restorative Care Ward rounds at Norwood (0.5FTE) and 0.5 FTE working with home care. The latter part of the role includes performance of assessments for frail older people and those with medical complexity including home visits for the home bound elderly.

The successful candidate will be accredited in either General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or Family Medicine with a Care of the Elderly certification (MD with equivalent qualification) and eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

These posts are part of an innovative programmatic approach to the comprehensive provision of specialized medical services in the Edmonton AHS zone. This an unrivalled opportunity for interested, engaged and enthusiastic physicians to take an active role in acute, post-acute, rehabilitative and community geriatric medicine services.

Post holders will be expected to participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate education and training programs of the joint divisions of Care of the Elderly and Geriatric Medicine and maintain adequate continuing professional development as dictated by their relevant governing body. Medical liability insurance will be required

All appropriate support (administrative and technical) to enable the successful candidates to excel will be provided. Remuneration for the posts is $327,468 – 359,832 depending upon training and hours. A 10% overhead will be payable for business administration.

The SGS – ARP is also seeking to expand its educational remit. Successful and interested candidates will be offered a clinical academic colleague appointment with the relevant academic department.
