Covenant Health, in partnership with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Section of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a full-time Orthopaedic Surgeon with sub-specialty training in Spine Surgery.

This position is primarily located at the Misericordia Hospital. The position is to help a senior surgeon transition out of practice with the plan for this to be a permanent position.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the teaching program and will be encouraged to apply for a Clinical Faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The Section of Orthopaedic Surgery presently consists of 44 surgeons and provides services to the City of Edmonton and surrounding communities including Northern Alberta, Northern British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. The Section provides specialized care in all aspects of Orthopaedic Surgery including Arthroplasty, Foot and Ankle, Oncology, Paediatrics, Spine, Sports Medicine, Trauma and Upper Extremity. The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery has a training program of 20 residents and provides fellowship opportunities in Trauma, Arthroplasty, Sports Medicine, Spine, Foot and Ankle, Paediatrics and Upper Extremity Surgery.

The successful candidate will have completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery and will be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. They must have completed fellowship training in Complex Spine Surgery. They must be eligible for a full, unrestricted license by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. The applicant will have demonstrated excellence as a clinician and will be involved in resident and fellow education. It is also hoped that this candidate will have an interest in research and have completed a masters or Ph.D.

Compensation is fee for service, according to the schedule of medical benefits of Alberta
