Alberta Health Services in partnership with The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology invites applications for a Rheumatologist to be based at the University of Alberta. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Rheumatology at the University of Alberta is focused on ensuring excellence in clinical practice, research, and teaching. It currently provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton Zone, and consultative service to Northern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, And the Northwest Territories. The University-based Division work closely with a group of community-based rheumatologists who actively support the research and education missions.

The Division’s research activities have been nationally and internationally recognized and center on its clinical programs including RAPPORT (rheumatoid arthritis), FORCAST (ankylosing spondylitis), lupus and vasculitis programs. Research also occurs in medical education methodology.

The Educational program in Rheumatology spans all levels of medical education from medical students through comprehensive fellowship programs with Rheumatology Residents uniformly achieving high success rates in national (RCPSC) examinations.

Key accountabilities of the Clinical Academic Colleague Rheumatology Physician will include, but will not be limited to clinical services with evaluation and management of Rheumatology patients in ambulatory and hospital environments. The position will also include contribution to medical education of learners at all levels, from medical students and residents to rheumatology residents and fellows.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certification in Rheumatology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
