Vascular Surgeon - Grey Nuns Community Hospital
(20-GNCH-SUR-VAS-13)

Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Division of Vascular Surgery, is seeking the services of a full-time vascular surgeon to join 6 full-time vascular surgeons in a widely varied and busy clinical practice at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Covenant is Canada’s largest Catholic provider of health care, with 26 Catholic facilities in 15 communities across Alberta. As a major provider in Alberta’s integrated health system, the Covenant family (Covenant Health, Covenant Care, and Covenant Living) works with Alberta Health Services and community partners to positively influence the health of Albertans through a broad range of programs and services in our hospitals, health centres and continuing care centres.

The Vascular Surgery program is situated at the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre, within the Grey Nuns Hospital. This is a 363 acute care bed hospital, situated in the Southeast of Edmonton and is also home to general surgery, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, obstetrics and gynecology, and short stay orthopedic surgery programs in addition to a full array of imaging and interventional services.

The vascular surgery program covers a referral base of over 2.2 million people, including the Edmonton Zone in addition to central and northern Alberta and the Yukon and Northwest Territories. We perform over 1700 cases per year, encompassing a full range of vascular surgical procedures including open and endovascular abdominal aortic reconstructions, advanced endovascular complex thoraco-abdominal aortic repair, open thoracoabdominal aortic repair, carotid and lower limb reconstructions, endovascular and hybrid peripheral interventions, dialysis access surgery and venous interventions.

Open surgery and endovascular repairs and interventions are carried out in our two state-of-the-art hybrid suites that have been operational since September of 2018.

Applicants for the position must have Certification in Vascular Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensable to practice in the province of Alberta. In addition, candidates must have completed additional training in open thoraco-abdominal aneurysm repair at a center with a recognized training program or must be willing to undergo such training within 3 years of taking this position. The candidate will then be expected to transition into a clinical leadership role for the open thoraco-abdominal aortic program at the Northern Alberta Vascular Centre. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service schedule.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the teaching program and will be encouraged to apply for a Clinical Faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

This position will not support a practice readiness assessment.
