Alberta Health Services, Department of Rural Medicine, Calgary Zone is currently recruiting an experienced OB/GYN. The successful applicant must have strong surgical skills and be comfortable operating without local backup of other surgical specialties in a Level I community hospital.

· No antepartum care.

· Consultant obstetrics only – providing backup for local family physicians and midwives who provide low risk obstetrical care.

· On-call 1 in 3 but taken from home.

· Must reside within 30 minutes of High River Hospital.

· Establish and maintain a community based practice within the Town of High River or surrounding rural area. The successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or by opening their own practice. This is the candidate’s business choice and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

· Ideal for someone wanting to slow down or focus more on gynecology.

· High River is located close to Calgary with Level 2 and Level 3 care centres available to transfer patients to.

To Banff: 2 hours

To Calgary: 30 minutes/50 minutes to Calgary International Airport

To Edmonton: 3.5 hours

To Red Deer: 2 hours

To Lethbridge: 1.5 hours

To Alberta/Montana Border: Less than 3 hours

Must be eligible to practice as an OB/Gyne Specialist as per CPSA standards – required

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada – desired

Fellowship or equivalent – desired

Experienced OB/GYN with strong surgical skills.

Candidate must have hands on experience offering OBGYN services as the sole provider within the past 1-2 years.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required

Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – desired

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) – desired

Advances in Labour and Risk Management (ALARM) – required

Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently (MOREOB) – required

NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program - required

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Preference will be given to applicants who do not require, or have completed the CPSA Practice Readiness Assessment (PRA-AB).

Must read, write and speak English.

Fee for Service

On Call Stipend – Physicians are remunerated for being on call.
