Family Physician to provide private practice in the community of Medicine Hat, and participate in group call coverage including Dr. Nil shifts at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

Full scope multi disciplinary general practice.

Practitioner will provide medical services in the South Zone Clinical Department of Family Practice, in the community of Medicine Hat at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and in private practice.

CCFP Preferred

  • Assume and maintain a full time Family Medicine practice in the community of Medicine Hat; A full time practice is generally accepted as engagement in clinical duties five (5) days per week and/or providing commensurate shifts in keeping with other full time practice FTEs as assigned by the medical leader responsible for the area of clinical service;

  • Obtain and maintain AHS Medical Staff Appointment and hospital privileges which will include provision of inpatient admission services for their patient panel, including maintenance of a call roster at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital;

  • Will participate in Dr. Nil Program;

  • Option to participate in shifts at the Family Medicine Maternity Clinic, subject to successful application with them;

  • Will have a patient panel of a minimum of 1000 patients within six (6) months;

  • Reside in and have as primary residence, the community of Medicine Hat;

  • Provide on-call support as per AHS’s on-call schedules and expectations applicable to the South Zone Clinical Department of Family Practice or as may otherwise be established or directed by an appropriate Medical Leaders;

  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the Rules and AHS policies;

  • Will join and be an active member with the Primary Care Network;

  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the Zone Clinical Department of Family Practice at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in support of patient care; and

  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Family Practice at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and AHS in general, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably.

    Clinic Hours: Mon-Fri daytime booked appointments. Weeknight evening walk in. Weekend walk in / Stat holidays 9:00 am to noon. Hospital rotation shifts once every 5 weeks.
    Practice Description: Full Accuro EMR. Friendly, experienced, reliable office staff. On-site manager. PCN RNs and Behavior Consultant. ECG machine. Competitive fee-for-service split.

CCFP Preferred

Must hold or be eligible to apply to the CPSA for the Provisional Register Conditional Practice as a General Practitioner or be recognized as a specialist in Family Medicine.

Preference will be given to Canadians and Permanent Residents of Canada.

Fee for service

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.95 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
