Alberta Health Services, South Zone is currently recruiting for a full-time Internal Medicine specialist with General Cardiology skills.

The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH) is an acute care facility, which also includes sub-acute/restorative care beds serving South East Alberta with a catchment population of ~110,000. MHRH has 246 acute care beds, 30 geriatric beds, 10 ICU beds and 7 NICU bassinets. MHRH is an accredited Level 3 Trauma Centre providing coverage in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and Cancer services.

The successful candidate must have or be eligible for FRCPC certification and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

-Must be willing to participate in the on call rotation for the Department of Medicine. ICU coverage - Floor & ER consults, phone advice, community office practice.

-Must be willing to provide Inpatient and Community Consultative Services.

-Must participate in the cardiac stress testing rotational coverage. Must already be certified or be certified within one year of commencement of full time practice, an approved CPSA Interpreter for Cardiac Exercise Stress Testing.

-Establish and maintain a full time Specialist Internal Medicine practice in the community of Medicine Hat; A full time practice is defined as providing clinical activities at least five (5) day per week, a minimum of forty (40) hours per week;

-Obtain and maintain AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;

-Provide inpatient and community consultations within the community of Medicine Hat; to the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital;

-Reside in and have as primary residence, in the community of Medicine Hat;

-Provide on-call support as per AHS’s on-call schedules and expectations applicable to the South Zone Clinical Department of Medicine practices or as may otherwise be established or directed by an appropriate Medical Leaders;

-Participation in / provision of Internal Medicine physician on-call coverage;

-Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the Rules and AHS policies;

-Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in support of patient care;

-Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within Zone Clinical Department of Medicine at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and AHS in general, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably.

Travel Alberta

  • The individual must have or be eligible for FRCPC certification
  • Must hold a valid and relevant license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta or hold a valid Notification of Eligibility Letter from the CPSA.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Recent experience (within the last 12 months) of independent Internal Medicine practice where the physician has been the Most Responsible Physican.
  • Previous inpatient experience.
  • Certified within one year of commencement of full time practice as an approved CPSA Interpreter for Cardic Execise Stress Testing.
