We are looking for a Family Medicine physician Extended Surgical Skills who will practice in both an office based Family Medicine clinic and provide Extended Surgical Skills in AHS facilities. A successful candidate will fulfill a scope of practice that may include community practice, inpatient, outpatient, acute, and long term care. The list of surgical procedures required/desired for a successful candidate will be determined through assessment of OR resources and in accordance with Zone Surgical Program requirements.

All recruitment and subsequent appointment and privileges applications shall be in accordance with the AHS bylaws and Rules.

A successful candidate will be working to support an active obstetrical program

  • 1 General Surgeon, 1 GP Surgeon - providing surgical services, C-section, gastroscopy and colonoscopy

  • 1 Ob/Gyn – providing surgical services, C-section, and obstetric shared care.

  • 2 GP Anesthetists provide anesthesia services, epidural support for labor and delivery and OR on call support.

Required Competencies
•A successful candidate will hold valid and relevant license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
•Recent experience (within the last 12 months) of independent Family Medicine practice where the physician has been the most responsible physician for a wide range of Family Medicine patients
•Applicant must also be able to provide proof of participation in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs
•Extended Obstetrics skills
•Recent experience (within the last 12 months) doing surgical and endoscopic procedures

Desired Competencies
•Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
•Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
•Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
•Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Advances in Labour and Risk Management (ALARM)

Fee for Service

Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 15.12% for insured services provided in this community.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,063 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
