As per AHS MSB Article 2.5.2, without limiting the authority of AHS relative to its administrative structures, the responsibilities of the CMD involve all duties assigned to him/her in AHS MSBs/MSRs and Zonal MSRs, and include but are not limited to:

  • Effective and Consistent Communication to support front line practitioner engagement;
  • Accountability for practitioner-related matters and operational decisions requiring practitioner input or leadership that arise within a Rural Hospital/Community;
  • Working with the Acute Care, Seniors and Allied Manager of a Rural Hospital/Community in a partnership to facilitate effective day-to-day operations;
  • Advocating for the provision of high quality and safe patient care in the Rural Hospital/Community;
  • Physician Workforce Planning including the reviewing and recommending of privileging for practitioners working in the Rural Hospital/Community in collaboration with ZCDHs, ZCSCs, ZPMDs and AZMDs.;
  • Liaising with and assisting ZCDHs, ZCSCs, or ZPMDs for practitioner performance reviews, quality initiatives, health service planning and other objectives as requested by the AZMD;
  • Ensuring compliance of front line practitioners with AHS MSBs/MSRs, and Zonal MSRs;
  • Liaising with Health Advisory Council (HAC) members, external stakeholders and community members with the CMD’s operational partner(s) under the leadership of the ZMD and AZMD;
  • Participating in NZ physician leadership development like PLI courses approved by NZMA and fully funded by AHS;
  • Recording ongoing demonstrative/written evidence of work product consistent with the position’s full FTE calculated weekly for financial audit/general accounting purposes regarding an independent contractor;
  • Ensuring that Locum Physician Evaluations are completed by the appropriate local physician as required;
  • In the event there are concerns received from clinicians, patients, legal representatives or family members about patient care, the Contractor will respond to the concerns in a timely fashion;
  • Performing all duties as may be designated or delegated by the ZMD, AZMD or designate.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Compensation will be determined by the AHS Physician Leader Compensation Grid and will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position, the time required to fulfill these responsibilities, and the skills/experience of the successful application.
