Alberta Health Services is inviting applications from Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Edmonton Zone. There are up to 2 Permanent, 1.0 FTE positions and up to 3 Locum positions available with a start date of July 1, 2021. Locum positions will end June 30, 2022.

Shifts will be 8 hours, covering days/evenings/nights/weekends. A full-time schedule generally represents 10-12 clinical shifts per month.

The Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert is an innovative facility, delivering primary health care and community based services and a 24-hour emergency department. The Sturgeon Community Hospital offers emergency services, a critical care unit, a day surgery clinic, adult day support programs and a large labour and delivery unit. This is a large facility offering physicians an opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams that are focused on improving patient health outcomes.

Located 30 minutes away from Edmonton’s core, St Albert boasts mature tree-lined streets, a bustling downtown district, low unemployment rates, low crime rates, good schools, parks and trails and recreational facilities, as well as an impressive roster of festivals and events, including a large outdoor farmers market which is Western Canada’s largest outdoor market.

All Edmonton Zone hospitals are affiliated with the University of Alberta, and serve as important training facilities for residents and students. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Applicants are expected to participate in education of trainees and are encouraged to apply for Clinical Academic Colleague appointments in the Academic Department of Emergency Medicine.

The candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a passion for quality and patient safety. They will be considered a strong clinician by their peers. The successful applicant will have, or be eligible for, certification in Emergency Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada or the College of Family Physicians Canada (FRCPC or CCFP-EM) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. ACLS, PALS, ATLS and NRP competency are required. Residents must be eligible to write the appropriate exam at the next sitting.

Remuneration is fee-for-service.
