AHS is committed to providing services based on the population needs of AHS and promoting a shared responsibility for improved health.

The practitioner shall provide Dental Health services to the Correctional Health program in the Edmonton Zone at the Edmonton Redmand Centre and Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre.

  1. Provides emergency dental services including temporary restoration of tooth decay, extraction of abscessed teeth, simple repair of partial or complete dentures and instruction in oral hygiene to inmates with the goal to:

    • Provide dental treatment to reduce or eliminate pain of dental origin.

    • Provide dental treatment to reduce and eliminate infection of dental origin.

    • Treat or arrange for the treatment of disease of the oral environment.

  2. Will not provide dental services required for the restoration of aesthetics or function including endodontic, periodontal, or prosthodontic procedures. These are considered comprehensive dental services which the Contractor is not required to provide under the terms of this Agreement;

  3. Makes referrals to an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon and other dental providers at their discretion. All necessary arrangements for the inmate are to be made through the Centre unit manager or delegate. The costs of such treatment provided by these providers shall be billed directly to AHS Provincial Correctional Health Services;

  4. Makes all necessary arrangements through the Centres’ physician(s) and/or Nurse Practitioners for emergency dental care requiring the hospitalization of any resident of the Centres;

  5. Provides dental services at the Centres as scheduled by the unit manager, in consultation with the Contractor;

  6. Provides AHS at least 48 hours’ notice if any adjustments are requested to be made to the monthly schedule.

  7. Prepares the dental supplies, equipment and other materials for sterilization as per AHS procedures; and

  8. Shall ensure that a complete record of examination and Services provided is maintained and available to AHS staff as required.

The successful applicant must have a degree in Dentistry from an accredited academic institution and licensure with the Alberta Dental Association and College.

Approximately 1 clinic per week for 7 hours at each centre. $144.73 per hour.
